Dear MBTA Families,

It is only 9 days until the first day of the new 2022-2023 school year on Tuesday, August 16th! Teachers have already begun returning to MBTA to look at the list of students who will be in their classroom, opening boxes of new books, putting up bulletin boards, and catching up with each other's news and adventures during the summer break.

As the teachers prepare their classroom, the supply list for your child is posted on the website by grade. Remember to take care of your school supply shopping before Sunday, August 14th. From now until the 14th, Illinois sales tax on all school related supplies is 1.25% instead of the usual 6.25%-that's a BIG savings!

The new MBTA signage will be installed on August 29th on the windows facing Grand Avenue. Wait until you see how amazing they are! New window coverings for the entire westside of the building have been ordered and will be installed in 4-6 weeks too. Thank you to the Big Shoulders Fund Donors for providing these to MBTA as well as the materials and furniture for the new STEM Lab!

The STEM Lab is nearing completion though the new flooring and some furniture will arrive at a later date. Mrs. Bagshaw will be taking the lead as STEM is introduced to MBTA. We hope you will take a look in the Lab when you are in the building on Thursday, August 11th for Meet and Greet to drop off school supplies. If you are unable to do so, bringing supplies later is fine.

We hope to have an additional class in place for all grades soon after school begins. Keep checking the MBTA website and Facebook!

Though COVID is still somewhat present, masks will continue to be an option for students, staff, parents and visitors entering the building. The exciting news is that the activities and events that occurred before March 2020- Family Game Night, Fun With Math and Reading Night- and then suddenly ended, type of activities are now permitted again!

We've learned many lessons about safety since COVID. As school begins, let's all do our part to make drop off and pick up safe for all students, staff and drivers. We understand everyone is busy and in a rush but PLEASE drive slowly in the school parking areas for everyone's sake. Thank you.

There will also be many fundraising opportunities for students and parents to participate in to help defer the cost of the $300 fundraising fee too. After seeing how well attended, and how happy everyone is to be back together as a community at Kermes, I know there will be many creative ideas and great enthusiasm to support MBTA!

Thank you to the young men of Carmel Catholic, many of whom are MBTA graduates, who helped move furniture, paint, and distribute materials to classrooms. Well done!

Remember to pick up an MBTA yard sign at the Meet and Greet to show your MBTA pride!

School Mass day will continue to be on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at IC. Everyone is welcome! Watch for the announcement of the Mass of the Holy Spirit to begin the new school year.

As I leave MBTA on Wednesday, August 10th, I would like to express my deep gratitude and appreciation to you for your prayers, support and partnership these past 5 years.

When Mr. Lynch and I came to MBTA in January of 2017, I had no idea that God's plan was to give me the honor of being the principal of MBTA for 5 years! Thank you for entrusting your children to me and to the MBTA staff, most especially during COVID.

God's blessings continue! On Thursday, at the Meet and Greet, you will have the opportunity to meet the two women who will be sharing the interim principal position;

Mrs. Mary Brinkman and Ms. Kris Gritzmacher. Both women are experienced Catholic school principals, and are excited to partner with you for the continued success of your sons and daughters. If you don't have an opportunity to meet them on Thursday, you will have the opportunity throughout the year. Their shared email address is beginning August 11th.

May we each continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus, and to help each of our students know the love He has for each of them!

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.

With deep love and gratitude,

Dr. Saccaro
